“Kid Street Learning Center” Press Release

ECA and More Than 30 of its Member Companies Complete and Donate a Safe Parking Lot for “Kid Street Learning Center” in Santa Rosa’s Railroad District

New Parking Completed Prior to School’s Annual Christmas Play & Fundraising Auction on Dec. 9

Santa Rosa, CA, December 10, 2005 – The Northern California Engineering Contractors Association (ECA) and more than 30 of its member companies recently completed the building and donation of a $125,000 parking lot for the “Kid Street Charter School and AfterSchool Theater Program”, located at 709 Davis Street in Santa Rosa’s Railroad District. Previously, parking was in a dark, vacant lot at this special charter school program for at-risk youth and their families.

ECA chose to sponsor this project from applications it solicits annually from nonprofit organizations. The members worked together to create and provide the planning, materials and labor and equipment necessary to complete the new parking lot. A list of all the ECA members who participated in the project and/or provided donations is at the end of this news release.

“Thank you to the ECA and other generous donors for making our parking lot wish come true,” said Linda Conklin, executive director of Kid Street Learning Center. “Our parking lot has gone from a pit to a palace. Because of the community’s generosity, we can now use our resources to provide counseling, parenting and anger management classes, clothes, food, homes and cars for our children and their families. Thank you to the ECA for not only filling our parking lot with concrete, but also filling our hearts with love.”

“Once the Kid Street Learning Center Parking Lot Project was presented to the ECA Community Relations Committee, there was instant enthusiasm among our membership to help this wonderful program better serve our community,” said Doug Hamilton, chairman of the ECA community relations committee. “Many ECA members stepped up to the plate and funded this deserving neighborhood project with labor, materials and equipment. When unforeseen obstacles and additional expenses arose, they were resolved by ECA members and other committed local businesses. In the end, it was a true partnership with the Board and Staff of Kid Street, and a committed business community, that enabled this project to finally be completed.”

The new parking lot was completed prior to the winter rains and in time for the school’s annual Christmas play and fundraising event this year on December 9. The play, “Toys Are Not Enough, Part 2” — performed by kids attending the charter school and after-school program — will be presented at 6 p.m. in the school theater, followed by a silent auction, wine, hors d’oeuvres and holiday festivities. Tickets are on sale now for $25. Those interested in attending should call (707) 525-9223 to reserve seats. For more information on the Kid Street Learning Center, go to www.kstreet.org.
