The Next Generation Steps Up

In 1950, after thirty-six years of steady work in stone, concrete, and general contracting, seventy-year-old James Ghilotti transferred ownership of his company to his four sons: Willy, Dino, Mario, and Henry.
With the change in leadership came a new name — Ghilotti Brothers, Inc. — and a move from 629 Francisco Boulevard in San Rafael to 525 Jacoby Street. It was more than a shift in ownership; it marked the start of a new era grounded in the values James had instilled.
The Brothers Take the Helm

Willy became president, with Dino as vice president, Henry as treasurer, and Mario as secretary. Together, they upheld their father's philosophy: "Earn respect by doing a job well and do good for the community in which we work and live." This belief became central to the company culture, especially as they expanded their excavating, paving, grading, and concrete work in St. Helena.
Building a Legacy in St. Helena

While James had left a strong legacy in Marin County, the brothers began building their own in St. Helena — a community full of opportunity. The consistent work they found there fostered strong relationships and ultimately led to their purchase of a cement and lumber company.
They relocated the business to San Rafael, renamed it Shamrock Materials, and placed it under the leadership of Henry Ghilotti. For a decade, Shamrock operated as a natural extension of the family's commitment to quality and community. In 1960, the business was sold to the Ceccotti family. Its Ghilotti roots remain a proud part of the company's history.
